So Many Site Modifications…Where to Begin?
[21 May 2008 | 294 views | No Comments]
Since the last post I have made numerous changes, so I am going to break this post up into four (4) sections; Plugin Activations, Structure Modifications, Code Enhancements, and Monetization Implementations.
Plugin Activations
- Clean Archives Reloaded - A javascript driven archive mechanism.
- Dagon Design Form Mailer - A simple mailer form.
- Kariliev’s Sitemap - Generates a dynamic sitemap file for bots.
- ShareThis - Let your visitors share a post with others.
- Simple:Press Forum - Simply the best Forum plugin I have seen for Wordpress. Way to go Andy!!
Structure Modifications
- Created Contact page with Dagon Design Form Mailer plugin.
- Created Forum page driven by the Simple:Press Forum plugin.
- Created Archive page using the Clean Archives Reloaded plugin.
- Created Donate page.
Code Enhancements
- Moved all internal site navigation controls to the left side column (Pages, Categories, Archives, and Recent Posts).
- Moved all external site link controls to the right side column (Recommendations and Blogroll).
- Created Donate.php, a Wordpress page template, in the Cold Blue theme directory. This template integrates a PayPal engine for receiving donations.
- Created Home.php, another template, to integrate the description variable as the page header (currently ‘Earning Money 24/7′).
Monetization Implementations
- Implemented 160×600 Google Adsense Text Ads in left column after the Categories navigation control.
- Implemented 200×200 Google Adsense Text Ads in right column immediately after the Recommendations link control. This placement is strategically placed to subconsciously (or consciously) give the impression that the ad links are recommended.
- Added a 250×250 Google Adsense Image Ads to the Home.php template file, which places it nicely at the top-right of the Home page content area. Also, to the Home.php template file, I put a 468×15 Google Adsense Link Ads banner at the bottom of the page.
- On the Blog page, a 468×15 Google Adsense Link Ads banner was added to the top of the content area, and a 468×60 Google Adsense image Ads banner to the bottom of the content area.
- On pages displaying a single blog post, I did just the reverse of the above bullet. The top of the content area contains a 468×60 Google Adsense image Ads banner, and the bottom of the content area has a 468×15 Google Adsense Link Ads banner.
